Kajarai teej is celebrated in the North Indian Lunar month of Bhadrapud: the third day of the dark fortnight of Bhadrapada.Kajari teej is also called boorhi teej Hartalika is a combination of “harit” and “aalika” which means “abduction” and “female friend” respectively.

On this day tidy your house and decorate it with ornamental flowers to make it look festive. Construct an earthen altar and place the idols of Lord Shiva, Shivalinga, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Parvati and her friends on it. After this perform a sixteen step ritual, ‘Shodash up char’ for the deities. The pujan for Hariyali Teej goes on for the whole night and in this duration women keep vigil at night and engage in devotional music and chanting. Various sweets and other delicacies are prepared at home to offer to Goddess Parvati. Fresh fruits and green vegetables are offered to the deity.
